Here’s a clip of Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan being interviewed about the rest of season 5. He is very “cryptic,” to the point of being frustrating!

First, he tells us that the Gravedigger, who has been let out, will perhaps face justice after all. And he makes a joke about the letter that Brennan wrote while she and Hodgins were trapped by the Gravedigger. Still no real info! Nathan goes on to address the possibility of the film noir episode that we’ve been hearing about. But more importantly, he tells us that after the 100th episode:

“After the 100th episode, Booth and Brennan’s relationship will be different. And so we’ll be exploring where they go after that episode.”

Bones intern Wendell is played by Michael Terry. He talked recently about the love triangle between Hodgins/Angela/Wendell and he expects that the situation will bring Hodgins & Wendell to blows in the lab. I would imagine that Angela would love the idea of having two handsome, intelligent men fighting over her, but she will hate to see it happen. And what if one of them is hurt? Yikes!

Hart Hanson has warned him: “Be prepared for people to hate you.”

“I’m already prepared for that because I know that everyone loves “Hodgela,” says Terry in the clip below. “You know, Angela and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) together.”

Terry is cool with that though. “You don’t want everybody to like you. Otherwise, it’s boring. You know, I think that you need some people hating you and some people liking you. So fans can get on either side and hopefully my side will be bigger!” he jokes.

As far as long term potential for Angela and Wendell goes, Terry says he’s not too sure, but he thinks the pair has a shot. Whatever happens, however, he’s sure it’ll make for great TV.

What he’s truly hoping for, though, is some conflict between Wendell and Hodgins.

When I suggested a fist fight, he got excited: “T.J. and I were talking about that… we wanted like a big fight through the lab where beakers are crashing. I think that would be really good. Get a little aggression out, you know?” [Source: Zap2It]

No, the guest star himself is no nightmare, but actor Robert Englund played Freddie Kruger multiple times in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. He’ll be coming to Bones later this season and this spoiler tells us a bit of what the plot will be like. I can’t wait to see the high school photo of Emily.

Fox’s Bones has lured Freddy Krueger himself out of the shadows to come terrorize Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) in a slasher-themed episode set to air this spring. Actor Robert Englund, 62, who has slipped on his razor blade hands, brown fedora and red/black striped sweater a dozen times since the original 1984 “Nightmare on Elm Street” film, will play a creepy custodian at Brennan’s old high school.

The story finds jaded Brennan planning to skip her high school reunion, until a murder sends her and Booth to the scene to investigate. Emily tells me she has supplied the show with an actual photo of her taken during her high school years. “They wanted one of me not smiling, so they’re going to doctor it a bit,” says the actress. The next new episode of Bones, The Devil in the Details, will have Josh Malina as a guest star. When Booth & Brennan investigate their case, they meet the character Dr. Copeland. But show creator Hart Hanson recently told Korbi at Zap2It that Josh may be a recurring character on the series.

He also gave some spoilers about which of the guest stars we’ve seen on Bones will return later this season and he even gives us a bit of information about the episode Kathy Reichs is writing.

It’s a rather long and very interesting interview, but here’s a short excerpt. You’ll want to go read it all, though.

Q: So, Hart, we know that Goodman won’t be returning for the 100th episode, but which old friends will we see?

Hart Hanson: We brought back Zack (Eric Millegan). [And] Caroline (Patricia Belcher) will be there.

Q: How are you going to bring Caroline into the episode, since Brennan and the squints met her on-screen earlier in the series?

HH: Well, she’s a federal prosecutor [now], so we just pretend that six years ago she was the federal prosecutor in DC [and we see her doing that].

Q: Two of your more frequent guest players, Ryan O’Neal and Stephen Fry, seem to be otherwise occupied right now, what with Ryan doing an arc on “90210″ and Stephen in seclusion for a bit. Did that alter any of your plans for this season?

HH: I know where [Stephen] is. He’s writing the second volume of his memoir and he needs three months [to finish it]. He’s hiding away somewhere to do it. So I don’t think we’ll have [him back this season]. But I talk to him fairly often — we’re writing something together [as well] — so if he says, okay, I’ll do it, then we will snap him up, because he’s Stephen Fry. He’s awesome. I think we’ll have Ryan O’Neal back at least once. We’d like to have him more. Every time he’s on the screen you go, oh my God, that’s Ryan O’Neal. He’s a huge movie star and he’s on our show.

Q: How about Cyndi Lauper? Will Avalon be returning anytime soon?

HH: Yep. We had her scheduled for the [101st] episode, [but] she’s unable to do that so we’re yanking that storyline out and the next time she’s available, we’ll yank [whatever else is going on] and put in her b-story. She’s awesome. And who’s better for a psychic than Cyndi Lauper? She’s perfect for our show.

Q: Kathy Reichs, author of the original Temperance Brennan book series, is going to be writing an episode this season, correct?

HH: We’ve got Kathy Reichs writing our second to last episode.

Q: How was that for her? The television Brennan is so vastly different than the character in her books.

HH: You know, Kathy came into the writers’ room where we beat out the forensic stories, and I thought, oh this is going to be a nightmare, she’s a novelist. I’ve worked with a few novelists and they’re used to doing what they want to do without a lot of voices. In a TV show, there are a million voices coming at you. But she adapted instantly, she was fabulous. The room beat out her story in two and a half/three days instead of a week. She’s so smart and she’s such a good writer, it’s going to be fun.

Q: And of course, your Twitter followers are very aware that Josh Malina is going to be in an upcoming episode. What can you tell us about his character?

HH: Yeah! Well what happened was — he’s in [the] bin of actors whom [I love], I’m a huge fan — But I have to admit that when I saw him on Twitter and he said something like we should work together and wait a minute, I don’t have a show but you do, I thought, I gotta get him on. And it just so happened that the next episode had a part open: The head of the loony bin. Not Zack’s loony bin, but another loony bin. And we don’t often have guest stars who can be seen throughout the whole episode. That’s just the way our show is, we move along and meet lots of people for a scene or two and that’s it. But [the head of the loony bin] is someone who we could use more, and I thought, perfect, because [Malina] plays pretty smart and he plays pretty appealing. And he’s a good suspect. It was great to have him on the show, he’s really good. Someone should give him a series.

Q: Could he possibly return to “Bones” for a second or third time?

HH: I hope so. Yes.

I have to hand it to Michael Ausiello, he really seemed to get us all stirred up about the most recent Bones episode, but it turned out to be tonight’s episode instead. How frustrating!

In the latest Ask Ausiello column, he gives us a few new clues about what we might expect later this season…

Question: I watched last week’s Bones very carefully but there was no positive pregnancy test in sight. Next week’s episode, maybe? Or is it just happening this season and you don’t know the exact episode? —Sofia

Ausiello: My bad. I got my dates mixed up. The positive pregnancy test happens in this week’s episode. In my defense, I’ve been a little busy with press tour. And the Golden Globes. And a lot of other important stuff, so get off my case, dammit.

Question: Any scoop on Bones? – Manu

Ausiello: The most shocking thing about the upcoming 100th episode is “how much Booth and Brennan really like each other when they initially meet,” reveals exec producer Stephen Nathan. “And to see the evolution of that relationship through the case, and how it changes their relationship for the next five years, is interesting.”

Question: My guess is that Angela and Wendell will be the couple that gets married on Bones. Am I right? —Sandra

Ausiello: I was scanning the transcript of my recent interview with exec producer Stephen Nathan for clues, and here’s what I found: “The story with Wendell and Angela has evolved to a point where that is a more complex relationship than just an intern that comes and goes. And we will be resolving that in the second half of the year.” Thoughts? I think his use of the word “resolving” is key. Sounds like they’re headed for a breakup, not a wedding. But that’s just me spit-balling. [Source: EW]

This is one creepy looking corpse! And I’m sure it will spark some interesting discussions about religion and such between Booth & Brennan. I can’t wait for this Bones episode!

On a slightly different note, I absolutely love Brennan’s blue coat! I think I need one!

Episode 5.14 The Devil in the Details
Air Date: February 4, 2010

Don’t panic about the fact that this press release tells us that this is the “Winter Finale” of Bones. It just means that we’ll have a short hiatus between this and the next episode.

This episode’s plot may be very interesting, since it involves some potentially Biblical themes…and the intern of the week is Muslim. I wonder how all of that will play out. We already found out that Arastoo doesn’t really have an accent, perhaps he’s a former Christian too.
