The show Bones is based loosely on the series of books about a forensic anthropologist named Temperance Brennan that are written by author Kathy Reichs. The wonderful news is that she publishes a new book about once each year. And even better, they usually come out during the time that the show is in between seasons. So she helps us get through the break!

This year’s title is 206 Bones. It’s due to be released on August 25, 2009, but if we order it now, it will ship the day it is released. I love her books and have already ordered mine. If you want to pre-order one too, you can do so on Amazon.com for only $17.81 (that’s $9.18 off the regular harcover price.)

Ryan O’Neal Looks Heartbroken About Farrah’s Death

I wasn’t going to do a lot of reporting on the death of actress Farrah Fawcett today, but since Ryan O’Neal plays Tempe’s father on Bones, and since I ran across this photo, I just had to share it.

Farrah lost her battle with cancer today and this photo was taken of Ryan O’Neal as he left the hospital. He looks like he’s in shock and is horribly sad. Just seeing this photo makes me very sad too.

If you have a moment today, I hope you’ll join with me in sending comforting thoughts and prayers to Ryan and to all the people who loved Farrah. Thanks.

Ryan O’Neal & Farrah Fawcett to Wed

Bones fans are aware of Ryan O’Neal as Temperance Brennan’s father on the show. But outside of the show, he’s living a real-life drama.

O’Neal has been involved with former Charlie’s Angel star Farrah Fawcett since 1980. He says that he’s asked her to marry him many times, so many that it’s actually become a shared joke for them.

But now, Farrah is suffering from cancer and her health is declining. So this time when he asked her, she said yes. Here’s a quote from People Magazine about the engagement:

“We will, as soon as she can, say yes,” O’Neal, 68, says about his companion since 1980. “Maybe we can just nod her head,” he said, with a laugh.

“I used to ask her to marry me all the time,” O’Neal said for the interview to air Friday on 20/20. “But … it just got to be a joke, you know. We just joked about it.”

How very sad, yet romantic…

UPDATE: Sadly, I must report that Farrah Fawcett succumbed to her cancer today in Los Angeles. My thoughts go out to Ryan O’Neal and to all the others who loved her.

Hart Hanson Twitter Updates

I truly enjoy following Bones creator & executive producer Hart Hanson on Twitter. His wry wit and wonderful sarcasm are there for us all to enjoy any time of the day or night.

If you haven’t done it already, you might consider signing up for a Twitter account and following Hart. (@HartHanson)

Here are some great examples of Tweets sent by Hart in the past couple of days:

Oh for #$%&! David Boreanaz doesn’t make TV Guide’s list of “Sexiest Dads”? What’s with that? I’m canceling my subscription. If I had one.

Thanks to BONES fans who are voting for DB and ED in this poll: http://ow.ly/eWjZ

Wow. Could someone please teach Perez Hilton how to use the telephone?

The poll is one where Bones fans can go vote for David Boreanaz & Emily Deschanel for the title of TV Couple With the Best Romantic Chemistry. (I agree, we should all go vote for them.)

The Perez Hilton reference in addressing the accusation that Perez made about Black Eyed Peas star Will.I.Am allegedly assaulting him after the MuchMusic Awards last night. You can read the details here. Hart definitely has a point!! ;-)

Does Bones Deserve an Emmy Award?

June 21, 2009 by Lynn

There’s a petition on the web that’s trying to gain support for the idea of Bones winning an Emmy Award. Or, short of that, perhaps the idea of David Boreanaz and/or Emily Deschanel winning an Emmy is a great idea too.

So what do you think about it? Would you be willing to sign an online petition in support of the idea?

Hart Hanson, executive producer and creator of Bones, says this about the Emmy neglect:

“I think the reason why we don’t get recognized is because we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Hanson says. “We’re a ‘crimedy’ — a mix between a crime show, a procedural and a comedy. The shows that seem to be honored all the time are the ones that take themselves very seriously, or do one thing very well.”

Hanson says he’s particularly miffed that the stars of “Bones” — David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel — have never been nominated. “That really rankles me. These performers turn on a dime in every scene. I really think they should be in there.”

The petition is here, so if you support the cause for a Bones Emmy, please go sign up!

Emily Deschanel Answers Questions About Bones

June 20, 2009 by Lynn

Here are some really fun video clips of bones star Emily Deschanel at last week’s Monte Carlo TV Festival answering the audience’s questions. The audience included many international press people too so it’s an interesting mix of questions.

In this first clip, Emily answers some questions about the “naked in bed” situation from the season 4 finale. It’s cute that she tells them that the scene can either make some people happy or really make them angry.

She goes on to tell a bit about the baby story line from season 4, socializing outside of work with the other stars, how she got involved with animal rights and about how well she and David work together.

This clip is fun, because Emily talks a bit more about her personal life. She says that she didn’t originally want to be an actress. She was planning to be an architect instead. There’s also some discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of growing up in a show business family. She even discusses what she’s jealous of her sister Zooey about.

There are a few very mildly spoileristic comments about season 5. For example, it’s very likely that Stephen Fry will return and that Cyndi Lauper will be a guest star early in the season. Zooey is a possible guest star too, if they can ever find a time for her to be on the show between her many other projects.

I found another interesting Bones spoiler from Kristin at E! Online. It seems that there’s some discussion around whether or not Brennan still will want to have a baby. We also get to hear from one of last season’s recurring guest stars, Nichole Hiltz, who played Roxie. Check this out:

Annie in Albuquerque, N.M.: Brennan was so on the baby train last season on Bones! How can she be going back now?

Kristin: She’s not going back as much as she’s staying undecided and unpredictable. (All the better to torture us with!) As Bones star Emily Deschanel told us when she was at the Monte Carlo TV Fest last week, “I loved the fact that Brennan was adamant about not having children, because with so many female characters it’s just a given that they want children, and I think that is a wonderful choice. I think its important to have people represented who have made the choice not to have children. But I also love and respect the fact that she’s unpredictable, and she did make that decision that she wanted to have children. These characters are so unpredictable, they have contradictions, and that was one thing I loved from the beginning of the show.”

Matt in Boise, Idaho: Will Angela’s old flame Roxie return to Bones next season?

Kristin: We caught up with Roxie (Nichole Hiltz) herself at the Los Angeles Times’ Envelope Emmy screening series, where she told us that she will not be back on Bones: “Not that I know of, unfortunately, but I loved being on that show. I loved playing that part. I wish it had gone on longer and been fleshed out a little bit more. Michaela Conlin is honestly one of the sweetest, loveliest girls I’ve ever worked with. There was no awkwardness whatsoever. I had a great time on that show. It’s a good cast.” [Source: E! Online]

Two Season 5 Bones Spoilers

I know we have a couple of months to wait before season 5 of Bones begins, but the spoilers have already started to trickle in. Here is one from Kristin at E! Online that tells us about Booth’s brother Jared:

Mari: I need some Bones scoop! Will Booth’s brother be back?

Kristin: We caught up with Brendan Fehr at the golf classic this morning, and he told us, “As far as I’m told, I will be back. I don’t know how many episodes. I don’t know in what capacity or anything like that, but I have been told that I can expect a little bit of employment in the upcoming season.” Since Booth is in recovery, Fehr thinks it would be interesting for him to fill in for Booth, and maybe even attempt to sweep Bones off her feet again. “I suppose he does stand a chance [with her]. He’s a fairly handsome guy,” joked Brendan, “but ultimately it’s Seeley and Bones’ deal.” [Source: E! Online]

And here’s a spoiler from Michael Ausiello at EW. He lets us in (just a tiny bit) on what to expect betweeen Booth & Brennan in season 5:

Question: So, how’s about a little Bones scoop? I heard that Booth does remember who Bones is, but he thinks that his dream was real, so he’s just confused. Any truth to that? –Esther

Ausiello: Sounds like a question for exec producer Hart Hanson. “Booth’s problem isn’t remembering who Brennan is,” he tells me, “it’s remembering which Brennan she is.” Sneaky! [Source: EW]

Emily Deschanel Spoke to Press About Bones

June 16, 2009 by Lynn

When Emily Deschanel went to Monaco to represent Bones at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, she spoke to groups of international press about the show. The goal is to increase awareness for the show and try to pick up more inernational viewers.

Here are some photos that were taken of her when she was getting ready to speak to the press, and a couple of her at the photo session associted with the event.
