Emily Deschanel on Ellen Degeneres Show This Week

Emily Deschanel was a guest yesterday on the Ellen Degeneres Show. I found out about it too late to post to make sure you watched, but I’ve done the next best thing. I found a clip of her appearance on the show for you to enjoy. So you didn’t have to miss it after all.
She’s so cute in this interview. She tells Ellen about how she watches the show and when she saw Ellen in a restaurant, she reacted as if she already knew her…then she realized that they had never actually met. Very cute. She also tells how she …read more

Interview With Bones Expert, Donna Cline

Recently, I showed you a video clip of an interview with Bones’ forensic expert, Donna Cline. Now, Mania has done their own interview with her and there’s some very interesting stuff in it. Here’s an excerpt:
Is BONES your first television project?
No, mostly I do features, but then I received a call to do the storyboards for THE X-FILES. I was their storyboard artist for the last three seasons and during the course of that time, around the end of THE X-FILES (which we were all very sad about) someone from JUDGING AMY called and asked if they could recommend an …read more

Donna Cline, Forensics Advisor for Bones

With all the story line and character development responsibility going to the writers, there’s still the very important need for technical forensic knowledge to keep the show believable. For Bones, that’s the role of Donna Cline. Here’s a very interesting video interview where she tells about her work for the show:

This Sounds Like a Case for the Squints!

I just ran across this interesting article about a century-old serial murder mystery. As I read it, I had to instantly think of the show Bones. What a great idea for a plotline! In the real-life investigation, they are planning to use DNA to try to determine the identities of victims, but with all the bones and other forensic evidence, I could easily see this story adapted for Tempe and the squints to investigate. See if you don’t agree:
The story is one of the serial murderer, Belle Guinness in 1908 LaPorte, Indiana. She is reputedly, the most prolific female serial …read more

What is anthropology?

Considering Temperance Brennan is an anthropologist, maybe some of you would like to know what an anthropologist is, besides someone who simply looks at bones.
Well, the best thing to start with is a definition (Wikipedia):

Anthropology (from the Greek word άνθρωπος, "human" or "person") consists of the study of humanity (see genus Homo). It is holistic in two senses: it is concerned with all humans at all times and with all dimensions of humanity. Anthropology is traditionally distinguished from other disciplines by its emphasis on cultural relativity, in-depth examination of context, and cross-cultural comparisons.

Helping viewers understand science

Bones is one of three great new shows applauded for teaching people about science. Along with House and Numb3rs, Bones is helping to educate as well as to entertain – by showing us characters who are ambitious, curious, and incredibly smart challenging problems even they find difficult.
According to the National Post, these three shows put science on a pedestal and shows us that solving problems is as much about the science as it is the curiosity to find the answer. And, this curiosity is why we find the shows so appealing.

The forensic anthropologist on Bones (Emily Deschanel as a severe, …read more
