Episode 5.01 The Harbingers in the Fountain
Air Date: September 17, 2009
Spoiler:
Twelve human skeletons were found beneath a fountain and all of them were poisoned and at least one of them was murdered with a speargun because the poisoned didn’t work on that victim. Their investigation brings them to the Harbingers of a New Day, which seems to be a sort of religious group or cult that wants to live in a underwater utopia. Booth wants proof that one of his suspects was actually named differently in the past. As hinted in the spoilers below from Korbi TV, Booth and Brennan will indeed share a kiss after he rescues her from a dangerous situation. It looks like Cyndi Lauper’s character may be named Avalon Harmonia and would be introduced in this episode. Caroline, Angela, and Sweets also appear. [Source: SpoilerFix.com]
Press Release:
It’s been six weeks since Booth and Brennan have seen each other. Booth has been recovering from brain surgery, and Brennan has been on a dig in Guatemala. Angela’s psychic, Avalon Harmonia reveals while reading Angela’s tarot cards that there are multiple bodies buried under a Washington,DC fountain. Angela shares the information with Brennan and Booth, but they’re both a little skeptical considering the source. The lead pans out, and the duo find the remains of 11 bodies exactly where the psychic said they would be.
Meanwhile, Sweets has certified Booth mentally fit to return to duty after his brain surgery, but Booth is still experiencing some side effects from the coma.

Question: Any info on Bones? –Grace
Ausiello: The show is looking for an actress in her late teens to play Cam’s adopted daughter Michelle. I know what you’re thinking: “We’ve already met Cam’s adopted daughter Michelle!” Do I have to draw you a picture? Obviously, we’re going to learn that Cam’s got another adopted daughter around the same age and with the same name. Duh. [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Next Season Teasers: It’s not yet determined if we’ll get another sex scene this season. We’re guessing no. But Hart did say of the finale sex scene, “I have the raw footage. We may have to put it on a DVD some day.” What we do know about the next season is that it picks up six weeks later and after Bones returns from a trip to Guatemala. We also know that her baby plans are on hold and that Booth is still in a state of confusion at the season opener.
Also coming up next season is guest star Cyndi Lauper, who plays a psychic who is involved in a case and also gives her insight on the pair. (“Yeah, she may see me with a certain man,” teased Emily.) And yes, the casting came about after Emily sang Cyndi’s ’80s hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” on a previous episode. “That’s what Cyndi saw and got in touch with us and said she’d like to be on the show. She’s in the season opener,” said Hart. [Source: <a href="http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/07/ask-ausiello-spoilers-on-greys-csi-and-more.html" target="_blank">E! Online]
Spoiler:
Here’s further proof that brain tumor-afflicted Booth will be on the mend this fall on Bones: The next Fox character that visits him will be a flesh-and-blood human, not an animated talking baby.
Sources confirm that Fox is toying with the idea of staging a crossover next season that would find Booth and Brennan working on a case with Tim Roth’s Lie to Me doc Lightman. The insider cautions that it’s in the very early stages and “may not even happen,” which is even more reason for me to get this out there now before the whole thing falls apart! [Source: EW]

Started back on Season 5 of Bones, The LAB has a new look to it!! The ANGELATOR is now a hang down flatscreen TV that looks like something out of MINORITY REPORT. JACK, after 5 years, is getting his own SPACE! how about that! no more cubby-hole. Jack is taking over the OOKEY ROOM. I didn’t want to originally because I didn’t feel Jack would move into Zacks space, hoping he would come back, but now after so many years without him returning, Jack is moving in there Bugs and all! We just did our Season 5 photo shoot the other day! Looks cool 3 setups. 1: an open grave, 2: an office 3: a poolhall. [Source: TJ Thyne]

Question: I watched all your Bones Comic-Con vids and I didn’t hear one question asked about Angela and Hodgins. Sad day. Got any scoop on where they are headed next season? —Shanna
Ausiello: Good news: When it comes to Ang and Hodg scoop, my Press Tour vids succeeded where the Comic-Con ones failed. Check ‘em out. And here’s a bonus Angela scoop for your trouble: Exec producer Hart Hanson tells me that early in the season Angela will break her vow of celibacy with a man. “It’s someone we’ve seen before,” he teases. “I just told Michaela who it was and she shrieked.” It’s probably no coincidence that in the same episode, Angela and Brennan’s friendship is tested like never before. “Angela and Brennan have a big fight,” Hanson reveals. “Their friendship is deeply challenged. It’ll be the first time that Brennan realizes that being totally rational about something isn’t necessarily being a good friend. And every time she has done that in the past, Angela has come around and excused Brennan’s behavior. This time, if they’re friendship is to be maintained, Brennan has to take a step toward the irrational.” [Source: EW]

Question: Thanks for the Bones scoopage last week, but it still hasn’t quenched my thirst. Got any more juicy gossip for me? —Bree
Ausiello: Here are two scoops about the Sept. 17 season premiere: The episode features a time jump that’s longer than two weeks but less than six months. And an MRI holds the answer to one of the show’s biggest questions.
Question: Is Roxie gone for good on Bones? I hope so. I want Angela with Hodgins. —Claire
Ausiello: “Roxie is out of the picture for now,” confirms series creator Hart Hanson, who adds that “Angela and Hodgins belong together every bit as much as Booth and Brennan — perhaps more. And they will get there. But it’ll be a rough, rough road.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
On Bones, please tell me that Booth and Bones will eventually actually fall in love. The finale’s fake-out was heartbreaking. — Sarah
MICKEY: Who says one of them isn’t already in love? I’m hearing that Booth will demonstrate some pretty strong feelings right off the bat. A related aside: My great-uncle Andy had a brain tumor. Before his surgery, he loved nothing more than a plate of fried eggs and bacon. Afterward, the mere smell of bacon, or any pork product really, made him sick to his stomach. Bones is the bacon. [Source: TV Guide]
Spoiler:
Question: Will Brennan rethink wanting Booth’s baby on Bones? —Sharon
Ausiello: Booth’s baby? No. A baby? And how. “She does not want to have his baby if he doesn’t want her to have the baby,” says series creator Hart Hanson, adding that “it was really significant that once he had doubts, she wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I’ll have the baby with someone else.’ If Brennan wants to have a baby, she wants to have Booth’s baby. Her interest in having a child declines to zero when she considers having anyone else’s baby.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: What’s the latest on Zooey Deschanel guest-starring opposite her sis on Bones? —Lauren
Ausiello: It’s happening! Her deal closed earlier this week. As I previously reported, she’ll be playing Brennan’s never-before-seen cuz in the show’s Christmas episode on Dec. 10. [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: You need to throw us Bones/Booth fans a bone here. In the holiday spirit, could you at least tell us when the next big B&B episode will be? —Tessa
Ausiello: Do you consider Brennan undressing Booth big? If so, then the next big B&B episode is this Thursday. Context police: Booth gets covered in the exploded flesh of a suicide bomber and Brennan has to take his clothes for evidence. [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: I was wondering if Zack was going to show up in Bones‘ 100th episode. –Cole
Ausiello: Funny, I was wondering the same thing. So I did some digging and here’s what I turned up: If the scheduling can be worked out, yes, Eric Millegan will appear in the 100th episode. But that’s a big if. (Actually, it’s more of a medium if.) [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Flashback six years earlier (about a year before the series began in 2005) and we’ll learn Booth is haunted by one particular unsolved case he can’t get out of his mind. He tracks down Brennan for help, but we’ll see the snoops didn’t exactly hit it off from the get-go. “They didn’t like each other very much,” says [Hart] Hanson.
“I’m excited to find out what made Booth and Brennan hate each other,” adds Emily Deschanel (Brennan). “It had to be something big.”
Expect Eric Milligan back as Zack Addy, while Tamara Taylor tells me her character, Camille, will be seen in her pre-Jeffersonian Institute job as a New York coroner. And when T.J. Thyne heard about the special episode, he launched a plan to depict his character, Hodgins, as a fat guy. “He went and had himself done up in a fat suit to see if we’d like it, which was really funny,” says Hanson. “But we’re not going to do it.” [Source: TV Guide]
Spoiler:
Is it too much to hope that Booth and Brennan are the ones getting married on Bones? — Katie
ADAM: It’s too soon to start sending your RSVPs, it seems, as the Bones crew is keeping the happy couple under wraps. But, here’s a bit of good news: “There will definitely be kisses,” Emily Deschanel says. “I just can’t tell you who.” While you ponder the impending lip-locks, also consider this: Booth and Bones will get cozier while undercover in New Mexico. [Source: TV Guide]
Spoiler:
“Zack will be back,” confirms executive producer Stephen Nathan.
As I first reported back in September, the landmark episode will flash back to Booth and Brennan’s first tag-team assignment. “We’ll see Zack during their first case,” says Nathan, “and we’ll see the first meeting between Booth and Zack.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: I’m psyched that Zack is returning for Bones‘ 100th episode, but I’d be more psyched if he was coming back full-time. Any chance of that happening? —Carrie
Ausiello: “We have no plans for him coming back full-time,” says exec producer Stephen Nathan. “The way the interns are working out now is so great for us. We have the opportunity to use so many wonderful actors.” As far as Zack’s role in the 100th is concerned, Nathan says we’ll see “Booth’s first introduction to Zack and how he formed his very odd opinion of him.”
Question: What happened to Brennan’s maternal instincts on Bones? —Ed
Ausiello: She’s still got ‘em! “You can’t un-ring a bell,” says e.p. Stephen Nathan. “That’s something she will always come back to. It won’t be a major focus for the rest of this season, but it’s something that we will revisit.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: I watched last week’s Bones very carefully but there was no positive pregnancy test in sight. Next week’s episode, maybe? Or is it just happening this season and you don’t know the exact episode? —Sofia
Ausiello: My bad. I got my dates mixed up. The positive pregnancy test happens in this week’s episode. In my defense, I’ve been a little busy with press tour. And the Golden Globes. And a lot of other important stuff, so get off my case, dammit.
Question: Any scoop on Bones? – Manu
Ausiello: The most shocking thing about the upcoming 100th episode is “how much Booth and Brennan really like each other when they initially meet,” reveals exec producer Stephen Nathan. “And to see the evolution of that relationship through the case, and how it changes their relationship for the next five years, is interesting.”
Question: My guess is that Angela and Wendell will be the couple that gets married on Bones. Am I right? —Sandra
Ausiello: I was scanning the transcript of my recent interview with exec producer Stephen Nathan for clues, and here’s what I found: “The story with Wendell and Angela has evolved to a point where that is a more complex relationship than just an intern that comes and goes. And we will be resolving that in the second half of the year.” Thoughts? I think his use of the word “resolving” is key. Sounds like they’re headed for a breakup, not a wedding. But that’s just me spit-balling. [Source: EW]
