Booth Has a Hallucination of a Very Different Kind

According to Michael Ausiello, Booth is going to have one of the craziest TV hallucinations ever. This time, he won’t be seeing old military buddies or his favorite hockey star. He’ll be seeing an animated character!! WTF?? Apparently, Stewie from Family Guy will be the subject of his next hallucination…now I’m seriously getting worried about Booth’s mental health…

Spoiler:
As I previously reported, David Boreanaz’ Bones alter ego will suffer a life-threatening health crisis this May that will cause him to hallucinate. Well, I can finally reveal the destination of his head trip: Quahog, Rhode Island. Put another way, Booth is getting a visit from Family Guy’s acid-tongued baby villain, Stewie!

No joke!

“This is going to sound odd, but it is a completely believable event given [Booth's condition],” maintains executive producer Stephen Nathan, who declined to reveal the mystery ailment causing his visions. “It’s not just a fantasy of ours. There’s medical research to back up what’s going on with Booth. There are conditions where you can see cartoon characters.”

But don’t expect to see Emily Deschanel’s Brennan sparring with the evil tot: The cartoon cameo will be limited to Boreanaz. “We were never going to have Stewie just walk into the lab and start talking to everybody — that would be a bald and shameless crossover,” Nathan adds with a laugh. “It was always conceived to be a realistic hallucination… one that would lead us to what we wanted to do with Booth and Brennan.”

In case you’ve been living under a rock without Wi-Fi, what they want to do is get the two detectives in bed having sex in the May 14 season finale — an event Nathan assures me will “not be a hallucination.” But first, Brennan will ask Booth to father her child on May 7, a request that leads to Stewie’s first of two appearances. “Stewie will be in the sperm donation room with Booth,” explains Nathan, who says Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will sign off on all of Stewie’s dialogue. “Whatever Seth wants to do is fine. As far as I’m concerned Stewie can sing!”

It’s kinda wierd to think about. Although I’m less worried about seeing Stewie in a hallucination and more about Booth having some sort of medical condition.

  2. natalie says:

gut reaction? don’t like the idea. sounds knid of cheezy. but it could be good! i’ll wait and see.

  3. Victoria Griffin (toria) says:

Stewie? Why do I get the idea he’ll be yelling at Booth in the Sperm bank… Whoa! Wait wait wait! Sperm bank? Oh poop! Brennan’s still little miss Science isn’t she!? With any luck Stewie will make him change his mind about donation… we’ve all seen that episode about Stewie getting a little brother or sister.

  4. Jessica King says:

Dont know if Booth can hallucination and that not good idea but wait and see.But I did not watch The Family Guy

  5. Christina says:

I’ve read more into this (sides, if you catch my drift) and it’s pure comedic GOLD. Absolute brilliance.

I will definitely be enjoying it.

  6. Madeleine says:

“Brennan will ask Booth to father her child” – totally akward moment or so much fluff?

  7. Nierah says:

This seems like one of the stupidest ideas Bones has ever taken on. Clearly the writers of the show haven’t done their homework, because most visual hallucinations only occur with very specific factors, one of which is usually old age. I highly doubt this episode will be believable, and even if it is medically feasible to most people it won’t seem realistic. The writing has been mostly terrible this season anyways. I’m starting to give up on the show altogether.

  8. Emanuela says:

    @Christina

I’ve read the spoilers, too, and I have to agree. It sounds hilarious.
And as I have said way to many times in forums this season, spoilers are meant to make us talk: they do not release the entire script, but rather what they think people would freak out about (see the querelle on “Man in the Outhouse”, “Con Man in the Meth Lab” and the Perrotta episodes). So far, the only episodes I have been disappointed in where precisely those whose spoilers had nothing “juicy” to talk about. I guess we will have to wait and see how this Stewie thing gets played out.

General comment: I do not really understand why people keep on calling for realism in entertainment TV. If and when I want something real from TV I switch on the Discovery Channel; Bones is pure entertainment, it is character-driven, and I suspect most of the things they do to solve crimes in the show are far from real and/or that successful in real life.

I do not watch Bones because it is real; I watch it because I LOVE the interaction between the characters, between ALL the characters. It is one of the few shows whose main characters are so harmonically melted together that replacing one would be a nearly impossible task (Zach being replaced by various interns is good evidence I think). Whether it is true or not that forensic antropologists can determine the age of a body from a fraction of the homerus, whether it is true or not that there exists such a thing as the Angelator, and whether it is true or not that an FBI agent can do what Booth did for Max Keenan and get away with it, I don’t honestly care. It does not have to work in the real world: it is enough for it to work in the show. And speaking of realism, how many men exist out there that are REALLY like Seeley Booth?

  9. Nierah says:

it’s pretty ironic that you say that, Emanuela, since the producers and writers pride themselves on the medical accuracy of the show.

Besides, ANY entertainment, be it books, movies, or tv, is all about relating to the real world. Your talking about comedy. Comedy doesn’t require realism. But this is a drama that’s SUPPOSED to open up your eyes to Bones’ world, which can never seem real to the viewer if it isn’t plausible.

And your example about Zach being irreplaceable is really just an example of the fact that the writers can’t imagine the team with anyone else in his place. Besides, the interns are mostly for comic relief.

  10. Emanuela says:

    @Nierah

I know they pride themselves on the medical accuratcy of the show, that is why there is probably a good chance there is a study behind this cartoon-hallucinantion thing, don’t you think?

Besides, what I said does not want to imply that Bones’ writes are inadequate or don’t care about the accuracy of the scientific part of the show: it was just my 2 cents on why “I” do watch entertainment TV, which is not merely for their realism. That ANY entertainment relates to reality is not unknown to me: I simply do not request TV shows to be 100% real and accurate all the time. I am confortable with imagination, even if there is no real connection in everyday’s life.

I did not mean to sound offensive, I just wanted to give my opinion on the subject. I apologize if my words gave the wrong impression.

  11. Nierah says:

Haha sorry I was in a really bitchy mood before… all better now! Seriously sorry. I haven’t reread what I wrote but I’m betting it was pretty annoying….
I’ve just been kinda disappointed by the writing lately, but that’s just me. I still love the characters. I’m rather fed up with writers in general lately… either the show is just a repeat of the same episode over and over, or they make weird change I don’t like.

Anyways sorry for wigging out :P

  12. Commander says:

I love Family Guy, but I’m not torn by this. Part of me is wondering what the writers are smoking with this idea, and part of me thinks it’ll be hysterical. Too many hallucinations for Booth, but we’ll see how it plays out.

I just hope it goes better than Peter Griffin’s trip to the sperm bank…

  13. MissCin101 says:

all i can say is OMG!!!!

  14. MissCin101 says:

all i can say is OMG!!!!!

  15. Savanna says:

OMG STEWIE! wow i cant wait till this ep! this is gonna b good! and i wonder how the others in the lab are gonna react to this…

  16. Courtney says:

    Yeah I’ve been mulling over this and… I’m worried…

I mean, seriously? It’s enough that Brennan is asking Booth to donate sperm, you don’t need to make it any juicier by adding a smart mouthed cartoon character.

I mean I’ve managed to be relatively okay with the whole Booth/Brennan having sex at the end of Season 4. Only because David Boreanaz assured fans that it wouldn’t ruin the show.

But hallucinations of Stewie… I’m just praying that everything works out okay and my favourite TV show isn’t ruined beyond repair.

  17. Melinda says:

Hmmm… I’m not convinced with this whole “booth, I want you to father my child” thing. How… how… just HOW can brennan change from practically flinching at the idea of having a baby to actually WANTING to have one? I need an explanation cause I’m completely and unmistakably confused.

  18. Courtney says:

I was the same Melinda. But I’m thinking that Brennan is going to ask Booth to donate sperm so she can have a child IN THE FUTURE. To have a spontaneous 360 turn around would be completely out of character.

  19. Melinda says:

Okay, now that makes sense. Thanks:)

  20. Nierah says:

Yeah, I’m hoping the baby thing is actually some idiotic spin on what actually happens that some advertiser wanted to do. I was thinking it would be something like Brennan mentioning how he would be an excellent candidate or whatever she might, but i don’t see how conjecture would land him in a sperm bank room.

my real issue is that as outrageous as it is that brennan would even ask, booth would NEVER say yes.

  21. Courtney says:

Thank you Nierah! I completely agree! There is NO WAY that Booth would say yes to having another child outside a committed relationship. He wouldn’t want to go through with all the pain he has experienced with Parker again. And he wouldn’t want to put another kid through it either.

Which only serves to backup my previous statement that Brennan will ask him to donate sperm so she can have a child sometime in the future.

  22. Courtney says:

… To which Booth might consider doing that because he is hoping/knowing that they would eventually be together sometime down the road.

  23. Melinda says:

You know, i was very dissapointed when i read about the sperm-donating thing. I had been hoping that Brennan and Booth have a child AFTER they get together, not BEFORE.
So, I really do hope Booth says no.

  24. Melinda says:

Besides, I agree with Courtney. Booth is a very kind and caring person, and it would be completely out of character for him to put another child through what Parker experienced, even if HE was considering the idea.
