David Boreanaz Cover for SMOKE Magazine

First of all, I really don’t know why I was surprised to find out that David Boreanaz smokes cigars. I guess I never gave it any thought before. Then in the season 3 finale of Bones, we got to see him in the bathtub, smoking a cigar. Someone commented that it seemed out of character for him. But now that I know he does smoke cigars, it seems perfect that they incorporated his other character of The Green Lantern and his love of cigars in the scene. But, I digress.

What I really wanted to share with you was the fact that David was the cover model for the Spring 2008 issue of SMOKE Magazine. The did an interesting interview with him in that issue as well. He actually gives credit to his dog for getting him his earliest acting jobs. (I say, that’s a great dog!!!)

When David was asked what sets Bones apart from the other crime solving shows out there, like NCIS, he replied:

“Well that’s a very procedural show—they heighten and explore the procedure of solving crime with DNA and blood. I actually don’t even like Bones when it goes in those directions, so I’m always spinning it in the character’s head—spinning it to what makes this character tick and make the character come out in the forefront rather than the B-story of the crime and the DNA… Even if we were in the lab or dissecting the DNA and the blood, I have to find ways to have Booth and Bones connect mentally, spiritually, hilariously. That’s what’s intriguing for the audience: to have a relationship with the characters, rather than the DNA. Some people really enjoy watching those other kind of shows, but that’s not what I like.”

And I think I speak for many other Bones fans when I say that we love the difference! We hope that Bones outlasts all the other procedural crime solving shows! It’s so much more fun!
